Hello! I'm Shira (they/them)!

I am a Boston-based photographer, dancer, theatre artist, and educator. I fell in love with photography at the age of 13 when I got a camera for my Bat Mitzvah, and I haven’t stopped since.

I am committed to centering communication and collaboration in my artistic practice and I love working with people to create photography experiences that are authentic, empowering, and joyful. It is truly an honor to capture human relationships, identities, transitions, events, and special moments.

As a queer, nonbinary, Jewish artist, I am especially excited about uplifting LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities through compassionate documentation. As an educator, animal lover, and artist, I am also passionate about working with children, families, pets, movement, and live performance!

I am dedicated to ensuring photography is accessible to all and am happy to offer need-based flexible pricing, covid-safer sessions, and discuss any access needs as necessary.  I offer a free 15 minute consultation before booking any session. Please reach out to me with any questions and ideas– I am so excited to work with you!

Testimonials

“Shira is a fantastic photographer in both skill and connection. I felt safe and excited to follow their direction. Being in dialogue about what types of photos I wanted and what Shira was curious about led to a wonderful session filled with vibrant images!”

Eliana Rubin (she/her)

Testimonials

“Shira is a delight to work with. They are organized, thoughtful, and creative. Their photos have turned out beautifully. Shira understands exactly what we are looking for as they capture each person, program, and event. We look forward to working with them more and more!”

Joelle Schatz, Temple Beth Shalom of Needham

Testimonials

“Taking my senior photos with Shira was the best experience I could have asked for. I felt comfortable right from the beginning. They were incredibly thoughtful and compassionate, making me feel confident throughout the process. As a transgender person, photographs often make me feel dysphoric. Not only did Shira make me feel like myself during the photo shoot, but the photos I received afterwards reflected exactly how I feel on the inside. I’m not sure how they managed that; they are truly an artist!

“Shira was able to capture the spirit of our school, blending into the background to create beautiful shots!”

As a photographer, my goal is to document authenticity, and I carry on that intentionality in my editing.

I adjust lighting and color to preserve the moment of the photograph. I do not retouch skin or alter bodies.

How many photos will I receive?

The short answer: It depends! All the good ones!

The longer answer: I do not predetermine how many photos you will receive. I will share all the best photos with you! If there is a fantastic photo, I want you to have it. This will look different for every photo session.

What are access needs, and what does this look like in photography?

Rootedinrights.org defines access needs as “those things that are needed in order for someone to fully participate in a space or activity… In a disability justice context, access needs are seen as universal- every bodymind has needs, not just disabled people.”

In a photography context, this may look like finding a wheelchair-accessible location, wearing a mask during a session as a precaution against illness, working with an ASL interpreter, or talking through a plan together step by step so you know what to expect. I am committed to collaborating with you and welcome all questions about access needs!

What if I have more questions?

Reach out to me here! I am happy to chat via email, phone call, or video call. I offer a free 15 minute consultation before booking any session.
